Sales Cycle: When to Stock Up

Did you know that certain items go on sale about every 6 weeks or so and around certain times of the year? For example, you always see a lot of BBQ and grilling items go on sale during the summer.

If you wait for these sales cycles you can get items really cheap to add to your stockpile! The trick is to get enough items to last you until the next sales cycle.

Here is a handy month by month sales cycle prediction list so that you know when to look for the best deals on specific items:

January:

  • Diet/Healthy Foods (cereal, frozen meals, diet shakes, snack bars, diet sodas) Brands: Weight Watchers Smart Ones, Lean Cuisine, Kashi, Special K, Healthy Choice, Atkins, etc. Other: exercise equipment, scales, cookbooks.
  • National Oatmeal Month: instant oatmeal, quick oats, rolled oats, organic oats
  • Organization aids: food containers, storage tubs, shelving, labels, label makers
  • Seasonal Produce: broccoli, cauliflower, swiss chard, kale, carrots, celery, collard greens, spinach, cabbage, tangerines, oranges, grapefruit, pears, kiwi, avocado
  • Clearance: Christmas decor, lights, toys, stocking stuffers, artificial tree, wrapping paper and bows, gift bags, gift labels, artificial trees, ornaments, New Year’s party supplies (party favors, alcoholic beverages, sparkling juices, hats, noise makers
  • Super Bowl Sunday: Chips and other snacks, dips, cheese, sandwich items, soda, crackers, party trays
  • Health: cold and flu relief, cough drops, tissues, vitamins, decongestants

February:

  • National Hot Breakfast Month: Cream of Wheat/Rice, frozen pancakes, waffles, french toast sticks, breakfast burritos, other breakfast frozen meals, oatmeal, pancake mix and syrup, breakfast potatoes, breakfast meats
  • Valentine’s Day: candy hearts, chocolate candy, greeting cards, personal lubricants, perfume, stuffed animals and other gifts, gift sets, wine, flowers, candles

March:

  • Spring/ Easter: Easter baskets, Easter grass, eggs, (real and plastic) candy, egg dyeing kits, ham, Easter clothing and accessories
  • Seasonal Produce: mushrooms, radishes, rhubarb, spinach, cauliflower, celery, avacado, broccoli, carrots, asparagus, artichokes, cabbage, peas, onions, grapefruit, lemons, limes, grapes, strawberries
  • Frozen Food Month: frozen snacks and meals, frozen fruits and veggies, frozen desserts, frozen juice concentrate

April:

  • Earth Day: reusable bags, water bottles, Energy Star appliances, energy efficient lighting, natural/organic food and personal care products

May:

  • Summer Items: bug spray, sunscreen and self tanners, patio furniture, summer clothing and accessories, beach towels, swim suits, bird feeders, lawn mowers, gardening items, grills and grilling utensils
  • Gardening: planters, seeds, flowers, pots, watering cans, fertilizer, weed killers, mulch, compost and composting accessories, soil, house plants
  • Seasonal Produce: raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, avocados, peas in the pod, onions, green beans, carrots, artichokes, asparagus, beets, corn, potatoes
  • Cinco De Mayo: frozen Mexican entrees and snacks (burritos, taquitos, etc.), tortillas, tortilla chips, salsa, bean dip, re fried beans, canned beans, shredded cheese, lettuce, pinatas and pinata fillers (candy, toys)
  • Mother’s Day: flowers, gift sets, chocolates, perfume, photo frames, craft items, candles, jewelry, wine
  • Memorial Day: sandwich items, condiments (mayo, mustard, ketchup, pickles), BBQ sauce, charcoal, salad dressing, potato chips, paper plates, plastic utensils

June:

  • National Dairy Month: milk, eggs, cheese, butter, yogurt, ice cream, cool whip, whipped cream
  • Seasonal Produce: watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, apricots, blackberries, boysenberries, cherries, grapes, nectarines, peaches, raspberries, honeydews, corn, egglplant, cucumbers, potatoes, red onions, vidalia onions, tomatoes, summer squash
  • Gearing up for Fourth of July: chips, dips, hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, BBQ sauce, condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles, relish), salad dressing, charcoal

July:

  • Back to school supplies: back to school items (crayons, pens, pencils, notebooks, folders, binders, backpacks, erasers, markers, index cards, etc.)
  • School lunch items: lunch boxes/pails, lunh meat, lunchables, pudding cups, juice boxes, individual chips and other snacks
  • Disinfectants: sprays, wipes, hand sanitizers

September:

  • Diabetes Awareness: vitamins, scales, diabetic care (socks, sugar free products, test strips) glucose meters, Glucerna cereal and other diabetic friendly snacks
  • Seasonal Produce: pears, grapes, apples, tomatoes, tomatillos, peppers, onions, eggplant, cucumbers, beans, artichokes
  • Clearance: bug spray, gardening supplies, fans and air conditioners, camping gear, BBQ supplies, charcoal, lighters, grills
  • Back to School Supplies: crayons, pens, pencils, notebooks, folders, binders, backpacks, erasers, markers, index cards, dividers etc.
  • Labor Day Sales: movie theater deals (ticket and concession deals and freebies), shoes and apparel store deals

October:

  • Breast Cancer Awareness Month: think pink products, breast cancer promotion deals
  • Dog Adoption Month: all types of dog food, dog treats, dog toys etc.
  • Seasonal Produce: apples, beets, cranberries, pears, pomegranates, yams, turnips, winter squash, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, parsnips, swiss chard, cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli, arugula, artichokes, potatoes
  • Halloween: costumes, candy, toys, buckets/bags and other accessories, decor
  • Baking sales: evaporated and condensed milk, pie filling, pie crusts, canned pumpkin, baking chips, etc.
  • National Seafood Month: crab, shrimp, lobster, fish, etc.

November:

  • Halloween Clearance: decor, candy, treat bags/buckets, party supplies, lawn ornaments, pumpkin carving supplies and kits, toys, stickers, costumes and accessories
  • Black Friday/Cyber Monday: HOT deals on all kinds of items. Stores will release their ads before the sale (make sure to check Savings Aplenty for deals!). This is the perfect time to purchase Christmas gifts as everything is deeply discounted.
  • Seasonal clearance: bicycles, lawn/patio furniture, rakes, leaf blowers, etc.
  • Baking Goods: evaporated and condensed milk, pie filling, pie crusts, canned pumpkin, baking chips, nuts, coconut, cake & brownie mixes, chex mix supplies, etc.

  • Holiday Dinner: marshmallows, jello, egg nog, party platters, potatoes, gravy, rolls, pies, cranberry sauce
  • Baking: whipped cream, butter, cream, flour, sugar, cake and brownie mixes, muffin mixes, pie crusts, breads/rolls
